Paolo Giordano’s The Solitude of Prime Numbers becomes the book of the year, surpassing one million copies sold in a few months. The debut novel of the young writer from Turin wins the Campiello Giovani prize and is awarded the 62nd edition of the Strega award.
The Mondadori Group exits the printing business with the sale of 80% of the shares of Mondadori Printing to Gruppo Pozzoni. Finalised in November, the sale marks a general tendency in the publishing sector towards consolidation in a market that is experiencing structural change due to new competitive factors, productive over-capacity and a dip in demand.
