The Mondadori Bookstore in Foggia is expanding: a new room with important historical value

These spaces, which will have their grand opening on 9 November, were home to a historical bookstore dating back to 1881.

Mondadori Store, the largest network of bookstores in Italy, offers the Foggia bookstore customers an even more attractive and welcoming shopping experience, thanks to a new space that has great historical importance and that complements the current store.

A new room is being added to the already large spaces that the store has, one that was home to a bookstore created in 1881. With this expansion, the Mondadori Bookstore strengthens its position as a cultural stronghold for the area, offering readers a unique experience within its spaces.

The new Mondadori Bookstore covers 60 m2 and is located on Via Guglielmo Oberdan, near Foggia’s historic centre and next to the large spaces of the bookstore (200 m2) that have been there since 2012. The grand opening will take place on 9 November at 6 pm.

To preserve the historical importance of the location, the furnishings have been preserved and restored and the display cases will be visible to give passersby the opportunity to have a glimpse into the store.

The offer for the Mondadori Bookstore in Foggia includes a total catalogue of over 10,000 titles, from great classics to best sellers, including fiction, non-fiction, and various other works. Special attention has been given to younger readers with the We are Junior format, which includes educational games and picture books to stimulate their imagination with the most intriguing stories, and a department dedicated to manga and comics, Just Comics. Areas dedicated to #BookTok, for the new generation of readers, as well as stationery, toys and gift cards, also expand the bookstore’s offer.

“We are excited to start this new adventure”, said Marisa Colucci, Mondadori Store affiliate. “Our cultural initiative will try to focus on young people, and we will soon be offering all kinds of workshops, in addition to hosting school groups from primary and lower secondary schools in the city. We also intend to hold a series of presentations with different authors, in order to strengthen the bond with readers”, finished Colucci.

The Mondadori Bookstore in Foggia also serves readers online: customers can keep up to date through the Instagram and Facebook pages. They will also be able to get in touch with the store through Mondadoristore.it digital services to check if a book is available, order it and pick it up in store or have it shipped, choosing from a catalogue of over 1 million titles. The bookstore will also offer customers the opportunity to place orders via telephone.

The new Mondadori Bookstore follows the plan for renewal and development of Mondadori Store, the largest bookstore network in Italy, with more than 500 stores in cities and smaller towns. The cultural organisation is active throughout the country, online with the e-commerce site Mondadoristore.it and the book club. In addition to books, its primary service, it also provides entertainment, events and multichannel services, reaching more than 20 million customers every year.

‘It has been 18 years since I fulfilled my dream of becoming a bookseller. In 2006, I opened the first bookstore in the area together with Mondadori Store, a strategic, key partner. From the beginning, the store has always stood out for its wide selection of books, welcoming atmosphere, and the team’s dedication to creating a cultural space accessible to everyone, from experienced readers to those taking their first steps in reading,’ says Miriam Vazzola, Mondadori Store associate. ‘This year marks a new phase for the Mondadori Bookstore in Seregno. The renovation is designed to modernise the spaces and enhance the offerings to improve the visitor experience, making the bookstore even more functional and welcoming. This restyling represents my daughter Carolina’s and my desire to continue a path that looks to the future, preserving the soul of the bookstore as a place of inspiration and passion for reading, today and in the years to come, especially for the next generations,’ the associate concludes.

The new Mondadori Bookstore has a floor area of 170 square meters and a catalogue of more than 10,000 titles, from the great classics to best sellers, including fiction, nonfiction and miscellaneous. These include the project ‘Alunni in Libreria’, designed to convey a passion for reading to children. In addition, the bookstore has renewed its collaboration with the City of Seregno, which makes the Auditorium available to encourage meetings with authors and personalities from the world of entertainment.

The new Mondadori Bookshop opens tomorrow in Rome’s historic Galleria Alberto Sordi

Mondadori Store continues to grow, confirming its position as the most extensive bookstore network in Italy with more than 500 directly operated and franchised shops

Mondadori Retail CEO Carmine Perna: “This opening is a milestone in the expansion of our network, which has been strengthened with a new socio-cultural centre in the heart of Rome.”

A packed calendar of public events, with book presentations, book signings and meetings with personalities from the world of entertainment

To guarantee an increasingly widespread presence across the country through a new bookstore format matching current trends and readers’ interests; to make a social-cultural service dedicated to books and entertainment available to the entire community; to use innovation and multichannel options to enrich the bookstore experience. These are the objectives of Mondadori Retail, which today opened a new bookstore in Rome in the Galleria Alberto Sordi, just a few yards from Palazzo Chigi.

With the latest store, the Mondadori Group company – which has opened more than 30 new bookstores in 2024, both directly managed and franchised outlets – thus takes another step in its strategic development plan, confirming its position as the most extensive bookshop network in Italy with more than 500 bookstores.

“The new Mondadori Bookstore in Rome is a milestone in the expansion of our network. We intend to continue strengthening our role as the key player in the business by creating socio-cultural centres throughout the country, from large cities to the smallest villages, for the widest possible audience,” said Mondadori Retail CEO Carmine Perna. “Reading and entertainment are essential tools for us to encourage sharing and interaction and promote dialogue between the generations. The new Mondadori Bookstore in Rome also demonstrates our ability to systematically integrate all our sales channels – direct, franchised and online bookstores – and the importance of the synergy among everyone in the network. This approach was decisive in achieving a result that is particularly important for us, the opening of our 50th directly owned bookstore, which we are delighted to celebrate today,” Perna concluded.

The new Mondadori Bookstore

With the opening of the new Mondadori Retail bookstore in the Galleria Alberto Sordi, Mondadori Retail also consolidates its presence in Rome, where it has been active for more than twenty years with 6 direct bookstores and 17 franchised outlets.

The new Mondadori Bookstore is located in the Tritone arm of the monumental Galleria Alberto Sordi owned by Fondo Megas, a fund held 100% by Fondazione Enasarco and managed by Prelios SGR – a company in the Prelios Group and one of Italy’s leading asset managers – which in 2023 launched a major redevelopment and restyling project to turn Rome’s historic “drawing room” into a meeting place and landmark of the capital, as well as a strategic crossroads for shopping and tourism.

The store offers an assortment of 20,000 titles, from classics to contemporary fiction, and occupies a total area of 450 square metres. The format applies the distinctive Mondadori Store concept, in full harmony with the architectural elements of the Galleria. The bright spacious environment is distributed over three floors, providing perfect visual continuity with the surroundings and the city with its mixture of ancient and modern.

The ground floor displays all the latest from the book world – bestsellers, BookToks, thrillers, novels and local publications – and also has a stationery department.
The first floor offers the entire catalogue, from the great classics of literature to non-fiction, international books and Kobo eReaders, as well as a space for cultural events.
The basement is the domain of the younger generation, with the We are Junior department, where even the smallest children can find a rich selection of books, illustrated fairy tales and educational games, and the Just Comics department, with a wide selection of titles for fans of comics and manga, superheroes and graphic novels, as well as music products like CDs, vinyls and K-pop. Each floor of the bookstore is equipped with Trovalibro touch screens to help customers explore the merchandise, and automatic checkouts to simplify the shopping experience.

The store’s architectural design and layout is by Kallipigia Architetti, a firm founded by Elisa Innocenti and Giovanni Cipriani. Kallipigia Architetti are known for their ability to combine creativity and efficiency, handling every stage in a project, from the initial survey to completion, with meticulous care.

Events

Starting immediately after the opening, the new bookstore will host a rich calendar of events, including book signings and meetings with authors and personalities from the world of entertainment. The aim is to actively engage readers and foster cultural dialogue, establishing the store as a socio-cultural centre for the entire community. The program of presentations includes: 28 October, Sisters (Rizzoli), the first book by Paola and Chiara; 30 October, Cambio vita cercasi (Garzanti) by Francesca Safina; 5 November, Cento parole per raccontare una vita (Sperling & Kupfer) by Red Canzian; on 6 November, author Claire Dee will sign copies of her book Beyond the surface (Sperling & Kupfer). Subsequent dates on the calendar are 11 November, Il premierato non è di destra (De Agostini) by Nicola Drago, 12 November, Il sentiero dei dieci. Una storia tra Israele e Gaza (Piemme) by Davide Lerner, and 14 November, when Iginio Massari will sign copies of his new book, Giorni mesi anni di una vita intensa (Baldini & Castoldi). The first series of events concludes with the following presentations: 22 November, Il cielo su via Padova (Sperling & Kupfer) by Daria Colombo; 26 November, Bambino (Einaudi) by Marco Balzano, who will be joined by presenter Michela Ponzani; 2 December, La malacarne (Einaudi) by Beatrice Salvioni.

The partners of the new Mondadori Bookstore are: Altavia (for the communication concept and event organisation), Kallipigia Architetti (for the architectural design and bookstore layout), Res Contract S.r.l. (general contractor) and Mecad S.r.l. (bookstore interiors).

A cultural hub dedicated to reading and entertainment is now available to all outlet visitors

Mondadori Store, the largest network of bookstores in Italy, has opened a new store at Scalo Milano Outlet & More inside the shopping centre’s new hub.

The new area – designed and planned by architecture firm Design International – is the result of an expansion of the outlet following an urban redevelopment project: it spans over three levels where some of the most important brands on the Italian and international scenes can also be found. These include a Mondadori Bookstore, thus enriching Scalo Milano Outlet & More’s offering with an area dedicated to the world of books and entertainment.

The new bookstore expands the already extensive Mondadori Store network in the area, in line with the network’s strategy of spreading culture and promoting reading, creating an interactive meeting point and a true cultural garrison in a commercial space.

“It is with pride and satisfaction that we inaugurate the first bookstore inside Scalo Milano Outlet & More by Mondadori Store: an opening that promotes the dissemination of culture in all its forms and that is part of our strategy of continuous renewal and development of our network, which includes more than 500 stores, both directly operated and franchised, throughout Italy,” says Carmine Perna, Managing Director of Mondadori Retail.

The new Mondadori Bookstore covers 300 square metres and offers a selection of 15,000 titles, from the great classics to best sellers, including fiction, non-fiction and miscellaneous. Special attention is given to younger readers with the We are Junior format, which includes educational games and picture books to stimulate their imagination with the most intriguing stories, and a department dedicated to Just Comic and the manga phenomenon. Areas dedicated to #BookTok, for the new generation of readers, as well as stationery, toys, and gift cards, also expand the store’s offer.
The Scalo Milano Outlet & More bookstore is also serving readers online: customers will find information and news on Facebook and Instagram. On Tuesday 24 September, Mondadori Store, Italy’s largest bookstore network, will open a new bookstore in Pontedera (PI), right in the city centre in the pedestrian area of Corso Giacomo Matteotti.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, which will take place at 5 p.m., will be attended by the Mayor, Matteo Franconi. The author Karim B. will also be signing copies of Limitless (Sperling & Kupfer), a novel that has become famous among readers of Wattpad and TikTok, immediately topping bestseller lists upon its release. At the opening, the Italian acoustic duo Sunflower will be performing with their form of pop rock.

The store in Pontedera expands the extensive Mondadori Store network in the area, in line with the network’s strategy of spreading culture, encouraging reading and creating centres dedicated to the world of books and entertainment.

‘I am happy to be initiating this project with the Mondadori Store network of bookshops, since we share the same objectives: developing places dedicated to culture, making culture accessible to everyone and satisfying the tastes of a broad audience that is increasingly varied and – most importantly – increasingly young, due to the numerous schools in the city,’ says franchisee Antonio Verderame, who has now opened his thirteenth bookshop with Mondadori Store. ‘Furthermore, by focusing on the quality of the shopping experience, multi-channel services and events, we always put the needs of our customers-readers first,’ he concludes.

The new bookstore covers 180 square metres in a noble palace once used as a convent. It offers a selection of more than 15,000 titles, from the great classics to bestsellers – including fiction, non-fiction and other works – without overlooking early readers: it carries the We are Junior format, which includes educational games and illustrated books to stimulate their imagination with the most fascinating stories, and the department dedicated to manga and comics, Just Comic. Areas dedicated to #BookTok, for the new generation of readers, and local publishing, as well as stationery, toys, funko pop, gift cards and gift boxes, also expand the store’s selection.

There is also a dedicated space for events and presentations in the cloister of the building where the new bookshop is located. Visitors to the bookshop can also admire the work by mural artist Rame13 dedicated to the city of Pontedera.

The Mondadori Bookstore in Pontedera also serves readers online: customers can keep up to date through the Instagram and Facebook pages. In addition, they can also contact the bookstore through Mondadoristore.it digital services to check if a book is available, order it and pick it up in store, choosing from a catalogue with more than a million titles.

Tomorrow, 18 September at 6 pm, Mondadori Store, the most extensive network of bookstores in Italy, will open a bookstore in Termini Imerese, one of the most important towns in the metropolitan city of Palermo, thus providing the public with a new landmark for the world of culture and entertainment.

“Thanks to the passion for reading that has always brought my whole family together, I realised how important it was to open a new bookstore in my city, which is already culturally vibrant and attracts much interest because of the nearby historical Greek and Roman ruins”, said Salvatore Parrinello, Mondadori Store franchisee. “I have found a key strategic partner in the Mondadori Store network to encourage and promote cultural practices and experiences aimed at all the inhabitants of the area, especially the youngest”, Parrinello finished.

The new bookstore, located on the main street in the historic centre of Termini Imerese, covers 80 m2 and offers a selection of 8,000 titles, from the great classics to best sellers, including fiction, non-fiction and miscellaneous. Special attention has been paid to younger readers with the We are Junior format, which includes educational games and picture books to stimulate their imagination and, finally, the department dedicated to manga and comics fans, Just Comic. Areas dedicated to #BookTok, for the new generation of readers, local publishing, as well as stationery, toys, gift cards and gift boxes, also expand the store’s offer.

The two Electa bookshops in the Colosseum make the 2024 List of the World’s Most Beautiful Emporiums

It was announced today that the Prix Versailles selection committee has included the two Electa bookshops in the Colosseum on its 2024 List of the World’s Most Beautiful Emporiums.

The Prix Versailles, a world prize for architecture and design, awards contemporary achievements that make an exceptional mark on everyday life. The selection criteria include innovation, creativity, the local heritage and eco-sustainability.

Following this initial selection, the Electa bookshops in the Colosseum will compete for one of three 2024 World Titles (Prix Versailles, Mention Intérieur, Mention Extérieur), which will be announced on 2 December at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

The refurbishment of the Colosseum bookshop in May 2022 is part of an overall plan to modernise the network of four bookshops run by Electa in the Colosseum Archaeological Park. The project covered both the furnishings and graphics as well as the product selection: publishing and merchandising with dual copyrights — Electa and the Colosseum Archaeological Park — to provide the public with tools for orientation and understanding, as well as souvenirs marked by graphical care, quality materials and eco-sustainability of the raw materials and production chain.

The design of the bookshops in the Colosseum Archaeological Park was entrusted to Studio Migliore+Servetto, who developed a new format with Electa.

The different areas of intervention are united by a lightweight design for the furnishings, a selection of very light tones and the transparency of specifically designed micro-perforated sheets. These unifying elements are varied in each bookshop with specific colours (red, yellow) and differing graphics designed by Leonardo Sonnoli Irene Bacchi Studio Sonnoli.

Bookcases are used as an effective display system: they are flexible, capable of accommodating the different room sizes and their specific commercial requirements, and they highlight the richness of the contents and different types of merchandise.

The spaces are conceived as a contemporary Wunderkammer. A repeating module is the ‘frame’, which symbolically works around the merchandise on display. Visitors are surrounded by designer objects, articles bearing the Park brand name, books and products that, through the rhythm of the display and the graphic apparatus denoting the spaces, compose a narrative that arouses curiosity and a desire to learn about the monument and its history.

Mondadori Store arrives in Vittoria

Tomorrow, Friday 13 September at 5.30 p.m., Mondadori Store, the largest network of bookstores in Italy, will open a store inVittoria, in the province of Ragusa, providing residents with a standard for the world of culture, reading and entertainment.

“My partners and I strongly believe in this project: to offer the city of Vittoria and its inhabitants a cultural service as important as a bookstore”, said Mondadori Store franchisee, Eva Feligioni. “We want to work together with Mondadori Store, a key strategic partner, to promote not only cultural practices, but also real experiences to be offered to the people of Vittoria in order to also foster a sense of belonging to a community. We would like the Vittoria bookstore, with its events, book presentations, workshops and more, to become a meeting point for all its citizens. In addition, there will also be active cooperation with some local associations and schools in the area to support them in the renovation of school libraries”, finished the franchisee.

The new bookstore, situated in the heart of Vittoria, covers 70 m2 and offers a selection of 6,000 titles, from the great classics to best sellers, including fiction, non-fiction and miscellaneous, not forgetting the fantasy and young adult sections. There’s also the We are Junior format, which includes educational games and illustrated books to spark kids’ imagination, and the Just Comic format, dedicated to manga and comics fans. Areas dedicated to #BookTok, for the new generation of readers, as well as stationery, toys, gift boxes and gift cards, also expand the store’s offer.

The Mondadori Bookstore in Vittoria also serves readers online: customers can keep up to date through the Instagram and Facebook pages and get in touch with the store through Mondadoristore.it digital services to check if a book is available, order it and pick it up in the store, choosing from a catalogue of over 1 million titles.

Mondadori Bookstore Naples | MA opens to the public on Monday, 5 August

Everything’s set to welcome the public, both local and international, with lots of books, entertainment, culture, nature and sustainability.

Only a few days remain until the long-awaited opening of the Mondadori Bookstore | MA in Naples. The bookstore, located in the city’s central Galleria Umberto I, will open on Monday, 5 August with Mayor Gaetano Manfredi in attendance for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10.30 am.

“We have always wanted the Mondadori Bookstore | MA flagship store to be in Naples, an ideal city as Neapolitans are passionate readers”, said Antonio Serpe, Chief Retail Officer of Mondadori Bookstore | MA Italy.

“The project, in a symbolic place like Galleria Umberto I, also represents the highest expression of our philosophy: to place culture and art, in all its forms of expression, at the heart of things and to draw people, especially young people, as near to it as possible. That’s why we’ve worked diligently and passionately at the technical committee set up by the Mayor in collaboration with all the institutional figures involved, in order to solve the problems related to the location and make all the energy that characterises this extraordinary and colourful city, a landmark dedicated to culture and entertainment, available to the public”, Serpe concluded.

“Like Mondadori Retail, we’re proud of completing this project, and the vision and goals which we shared from the very beginning: to create a cultural and experiential centre at the service of the community, which will become a place where we can promote reading, entertainment, eco-sustainability and culture in its broadest sense”, said Carmine Perna, Mondadori Retail’s Director. “We believe that the strength of the MA format proves how important it is to invest in cultural initiatives that can adapt to present and future challenges by developing new business models”, concluded Perna.

The Mondadori Bookstore | MA in Naples has an area of 1,000 m², with an offer of 148,000 volumes from the great classics to best sellers – including fiction, non-fiction and miscellaneous -, from the We are Junior area, which includes children’s books, educational games and illustrated fairy tales to stimulate children’s imagination, to the innovative department dedicated to manga and comics, Just Comics, which winks at Gen Z.

Overlooking the historic Teatro Salone Margherita in the San Ferdinando district in the heart of Naples, the bookstore features furnishings that harmonise with the Art Nouveau atmosphere of the spot, respecting the architectural features of the time and combining them with the company philosophy of MA (): smart, young, and eco-friendly. An ideal space where one can take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, devote oneself to reading and harmonise with nature, thus representing a completely innovative way of understanding, promoting and creating culture. The bookstore is also very focused on and sensitive to contemporary social and environmental issues by organising various initiatives.

“Naples is the ideal city to host one of Italy’s largest smart, young, eco-friendly bookstores because it has always been a cultural centre”, said Nello Nunziata, Head of the Point of Sales’ Development Division. “It’s no coincidence that, along with the vast Mondadori Store offer, the bookstore has a space dedicated to music and cinema, book buvette areas, free coworking hubs and reading spaces reserved for reading and study, as well as a space for wine tastings and an exclusive area reserved for events, ready to host some of the most important personalities on the local, national and international art scene”, Nunziata finished.

Two large touch screen totems allow for social interaction, while self-checkout click & collect services allow customers to make their purchases online on the bookstore website and collect them in-store. There’s also Trovalibro, which gives customers the chance of finding the text they want from among those available in store, simplifying the reader’s experience in the bookstore and make it more pleasant.

The store also has a large photo gallery area, dedicated to the art and contemporary photography of young emerging talents, giving them the opportunity to exhibit their work in the heart of the gallery from time to time. This is the case for Michele De Cesare, Gerardo Massaro, Fabio Monk and Davide Orfeo, who will open the exhibition, Metamorfosi napoletana.

The Mondadori Bookstore | MA is a completely innovative fusion concept, inspired by Japanese culture and translated from simple ideas into concrete projects by the Ricciardi Architetti studio, in collaboration with architect, Selene Amico. Tall furniture that echoes the natural line of tree trunks, creating a gallery that envelops visitors and invites them to soak up a culture and make it their own, stimulating and satisfying their curiosity. Combined with bonsai trees and sansevierias – chosen on purpose because they purify the air of benzene -, everything inside the bookstore recalls nature and eco-sustainability: from the lamps to the design fittings, from the architectural choices to the quality of the materials – marine poplar wood and recycled iron -, skilfully worked by master carpenters and Coppola’s historical partners. The walls are also painted using eco water paints, which reduce the amount of free formaldehyde in the atmosphere by 80%, and with the floating floors, the store is guaranteed to have a lower environmental impact in the installation of all systems.

MONDADORI BOOKSTORE | MA expresses a young, smart, innovative, eco-friendly bookstore concept for Gen Z and beyond. The philosophy is expressed through architectural choices and the materials used to create them, and in publishing ideas and initiatives. The eco-sustainable cultural concept grew out of the entrepreneurial background of the Neapolitan-minded creators and Mondadori Retail, the managing company of the largest network of bookstores in Italy, Mondadori Store. Mondadori Bookstores can be found throughout Italy with 14 stores in Udine, Gravellona, Milan, Turin, Arma Di Taggia, Reggio Emilia, Grosseto, Rome, Salerno, Sassari, Sestu, Catania and Naples. Other openings are planned for 2024 across important Italian cities.
