INTERNI and “Salone del Mobile.Milano” present “American Architects meet Italian design”
Animating the New York design week, seven events to compare American and Italian design
INTERNI, that for over sixty years has been a spokesman for Italian design around the world, and Salone del Mobile.Milano, the most important international furniture fair present “American Architects meet Italian Design”: a cycle of seven events to animate the New York design week by comparing through open debate American design and the Made in Italy business.
The conferences, which are open to the public, will take place in the showrooms of some of the leading Italian design brands, transformed for the occasion into unique showcases. The guest, leading American architects, will shed light on their working methods and measure themselves against the history of Italian furniture design.
The programme for “American Architects meet Italian Design” features three events on Saturday 16 May and four on Monday 18 May. Starting on Saturday at 11.30 am, at the Technogym Store (70 Greene St., 10012 New York) the guest architect is Dror Benshetrit from the Dror Studio with “Design with Love”; followed at 5.00 pm by Luceplan (14 Wooster St., 10013 New York) Vivian Lee, partner at Richard Meier & Partners with “Architecture Around the World”; and concluding at 6.00 pm at FontanaArte (45 Greene St., 10013 New York), with Karim Rashid and “Lights to Live”.
On Monday 18 May, at 9.00 am in the Scavolini Soho Gallery (429 West Broadway, 10012 New York) James Biber from Biber Architects will discuss “American Food 2.0: United to Feed the Planet’” and present the designs for the American pavilion created for EXPO Milano 2015; at 11.30 am at Poliform (A&D Building, 150 East 58th St., 6th Floor, 10155 New York), Andrea Lamberti, a partner at Rafael Viñoly Architects, will talk about his studio’s international projects; at 4.30 pm at Flou (42 Greene St., 10013 New York), Dante O. Benini and Richard Meier with “Tune Architecture, Tune Life” and, finally, at 6.00 pm at Flos (152 Greene St., 10012 New York) Coren Sharples from SHoP architectural studio will discuss “Place Culture Craft”. At the end of each event there will be tastings of selected Italian products.
Also this year INTERNI underlines its international vocation with the May issue in English and dedicated to Italian architecture and furniture abroad. The magazine will be distributed in New York, with an additional print run of 15,000 copies at the most important design and fashion showrooms, art galleries and luxury hotels. After the excellent performance of recent months, also this new international issue confirms the magazine’s leadership in terms of advertising among architecture and design monthlies, with growing revenues compared to 2014.
The 2015 edition of INTERNI DESIGN GUIDE NEW YORK will be exclusively digital: the free App (for iPhone, iPad, and Android smartphones and tablets) will contain useful information about the main design districts and over 100 locations (design stores, restaurants, hotels and cafés) where events, conferences and presentations will take place. The app will make it possible to select where to go by choosing the date, the area of the city and the category, it will locate the event on a map and explain how to reach it. In addition, INTERNI flags will indicate where the design events are.
After this New York appointment during ICFF (16-19 May), the circuit that involves the most important flagship stores of Italian design companies will continue in London during the “London Design Festival” (19-27 September) and, for the first time, in Miami on the occasion of the “Miami/Art Basel Miami Beach” (2-6 December).
“American Architects Meet Italian Design” has been realised also thanks to the collaboration of: Aceto Balsamico Due Vittorie, Auricchio, Bauli, Ferrarelle, I Love Italian Food, La Perla Cioccolato Torino, Piccolo Cafe and Urbani Tartufi.
